DELIVERING A MODERN HYPER-CONVERGED VDI SOLUTION

Application Modernization

The Problem

A Combatant Command (COCOM) customer needed to strengthen security and increase overall productivity and safety. The COCOM customer turned to Three Wire Systems, LLC. (Three Wire) to enhance Cyber Security status at the edge by implementing Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).  The new implementation would span two different geo-locations each with approximately 1400 users per location. Three Wire was consulted first due to strong past performance within this scope of work and strategic partnership with Dell/ EMC including VMware to upgrade and enhance the entire process.

The new implementation would span 2 geo-locations and over 2800 users.

The Three Wire Solution

Three Wire Systems, LLC. (Three Wire) provided flawless delivery without creating unnecessary downtime or additional workload on system administrators. This execution allowed for administrators responsible for maintaining the datacenter uninterrupted continuity of process. Three Wire engineers and experts were integral to the project and worked closely with the COCOM customer to provided highly certified expertise and seamless integration as a major component of the team.

Partners

In conjunction with a long withstanding partnership, Three Wire teamed with Dell Technologies to develop the proper solution for COCOM. Providing over 12 months of VMWare and Dell Services to After delivery, Three Wire competed the stateside location and began the international implementation.

To support this program, Three Wire worked with Dell and VMware to develop a best of breed hyperconverged hardware and software solution. Both Dell and VMware are world-renowned for delivering high-quality and value to customers looking to modernize their business by implementing a digital transformation strategy.

Technology

At the launch of this project, the COCOM customer was a strong VMware user. Therefore, the Three Wire team designed a Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) solution on top of VMware’s vSAN to effectively and efficiently handle the customer’s data storage needs.  From start to finish, the COCOM customer will have seamless integration and virtually zero downtime in their day to day processes.  The final solution will remove endpoint threats at the edge while providing mission efficiencies and flexibility across the enterprise.  Further, once the VDI delivery is complete, there will be a tremendous reduction in endpoint management tasks, due to the reduction of operating system patching requirements.

Results

Moving into 2020, the COCOM customer is achieving continued results and satisfaction with the Three Wire solution. Once the initial network installation is complete, the customer will purchase and install two additional network systems providing a holistic VDI design for the entire enterprise.  Three Wire not only provided VDI engineering expertise, but also significant value in terms of cost and delivery during the acquisition phase of the project.

Key Benefits:

  • Increased Endpoint Security

  • Reduction of Admin Manhours

  • More Efficient Data Storage
