VetAdvisor Case Study

VetAdvisor Supports Veteran Employee Population and Their Family Members at Fortune 100 Enterprise Company

Veterans and transitioning military service members have acquired a wealth of knowledge, skills, and competencies through their experiences, in addition to a unique sense of leadership and teamwork. Our client, an information technology company providing hardware and software products and services worldwide, understands that value. With their commitment to veteran employment, they have made a concerted effort to hire veterans and add that value to their team wherever possible. In fact, our client has been ranked among the Top 100 Military Friendly Employers four years in a row and has joined with other top companies as part of the Veteran Jobs Mission coalition to hire one million veterans.

Overview

Considering this significant veteran population, our client has a vested interest in creating an organizational climate that further supports the veterans that it brings on. With this in mind, they reached out to Three Wire to provide coaching and training services, aligned with their existing Human Resources framework, for both the employer and veteran employees. In addition to these services, Three Wire was able to provide a technology infrastructure for a veteran-centric issues hotline support to those employees and their family members.

Performance

VetAdvisor’s approach targets not only the veteran employees and their family members, but also the employer. Trained in navigational advocacy and holding master-level certifications, the majority of VetAdvisor’s personnel are veterans themselves. They intimately understand the veteran and Talent Management System community, so they are well equipped to provide veteran-focused services.

A significant piece of VetAdvisor’s relationship with the business is to directly support the veteran employees through career coaching services to help with the transition from military life into a new civilian career. VetAdvisor coaches work collaboratively with the veteran population to develop individual transition plans that include career guidance. The civilian career and professional development coaching includes motivational interviewing, needs identification and risk assessment, resume building, and transition outreach. Personalized goal setting is coupled with real-time, high-tech and high-touch personalized coaching services. Working with veterans in assessing and identifying specific career paths aligned with the veteran’s interests, skills and abilities, VetAdvisor helps veterans translate their military skills and occupational specialties into civilian language. They also help veterans develop their resumes and provide interview coaching to help successfully transition into a civilian career.

VetAdvisor also offers unlimited veteran-focused coaching and training to both veteran employees and participating family members. Through a collaborative process between participants and their personal coach, the participants identify and work through topics such as well-being, life adjustment, financial guidance and career guidance. The services include non-clinical support in areas known to improve success such as sleep management, fitness and body weight management, stress management, effective communication, debt management, and budgeting.

VetAdvisor services work closely with company personnel, recognizing the importance of helping the employer’s leadership and management team to better understand the military culture and foster a climate that will optimize veteran success in the civilian work environment. VetAdvisor personnel work with the corporate human resource staff, hiring managers, and supervisors to assist in understanding veterans and the value they bring, laws associated with veteran status, and compliance requirements. Their corporate training courses facilitate recruiting, placement, and transition to the new job for the employer and the employee. They help hiring managers effectively evaluate incoming veterans to ensure they are employed in positions that align with their previous military careers.

VetAdvisor also develops and implements a marketing plan to assist in identifying a way of marketing services to all segments of the enterprise’s audience, leveraging multiple virtual modalities, to include the Veteran Employee website, social media, brochures and flyers, military-focused magazines and home mailers.

Finally, one of the unique aspects of VetAdvisor’s support is access to their Human Resources/Veteran-Centric Issues Hotline (HR/VCIH), which provides employees easy-to-understand answers to compliance issues associated with veteran, reserve and National Guard employees. Staffed with highly qualified subject matter experts with both military and human resources expertise. This service also helps to reduce common employer issues/violations under federal law associated with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), Equal Opportunity Act (EEO) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

Results
